PROFESSIONAL TIPS!!

We always recommend a new set of wiper blades with every new windshield replacement. However, not everyone reading this is currently in the market for a new windshield. We do recommend replacing your wiper blades around the 1st of May, and then around the 1st of November with a good set of winter blades. We do highly recommend ANCO wiper blades, the brand we sell exclusively at Lee's Expert Auto Glass to all of our customers. ANCO wiper blades perform better and last longer than other brand name wiper blades. 

Don't let installing a new set of wiper blades cost you several hundred dollars for a new windshield!!  We see this more than you know!! Stop by Lee's to have a brand new set of ANCO wiper blades installed safely on your vehicle!! 

Spray foam window cleaners perform the absolute best when cleaning automotive windows. Sprayway is the brand that we trust and use exclusively at Lee's!! Sprayway is ammonia free and safe on interior trim and panels just in case you accidently overspray while cleaning the inside of your vehicles windows.

And if you have tinted windows, Sprayway is also the safest and most recommended choice to clean them with. Window cleaners that contain ammonia attack and eat away the surface of the tint and can damage the tint beyond repair, meaning that you would need to re-tint any affected windows at your own expense. 

Also, never clean your windows when they are hot from baking in the sun. Let them cool down to shade temperature before you begin. Some of the chemicals that make up the foaming action in spray foam window cleaners can evaporate faster than the rest of the chemicals when the spray hits hot glass, setting you up for smears and streaks. The chemicals in foam window cleaners work best when they work together, leaving the windows streak free as advertised. 

And if you are using cloth towels instead of paper towels to clean your windows, which is more cost effective and better for the environment, avoid using fabric softener when washing the towels as the softener can release from the cloth onto the glass once the cloth becomes damp or wet, leaving your windows smeared and streaked as well.

Defroster tabs that come unattached from backglasses can most of the time be repaired. But there are several determining factors involved that requires a professional to evaluate before any decision is made. When a defroster tab comes off of the backglass, it can also remove the soldering base off of the surface of the glass, and at that point, the tab cannot be reattached. 

But, if the soldering base is still present and in good condition, then the tab can be reattached. But, the repair process requires gravity for the new solder to flow properly and evenly, meaning the backglass needs to be removed and faced upright for the procedure to take place. However, depending on the design of the backglass, it may not be cost effective to attempt the repair. Some moldings that surround the backglass may get damaged during the removal and need replaced, adding additional cost to the procedure. 

So, by the time the amount of money involved for the removal and reinstallation, potential molding replacement, soldering process, and re-installation materials (Urethane sealant), the total cost could be close to or exceed the cost of a brand new backglass. And at that point it's just not worth attempting the repair process. Only a professional will know what to recommend. 

To this day, we have never seen the defroster repair kits that are sold on the internet or at the local parts stores ever work successfully, ever. So don't waste your money on these kits or your time invested in trying to use these kits and attempt the repair yourself. If the kits in fact are used prior to a professional repair, they can greatly hinder the professional repair process, leaving you no choice but to replace the backglass. Have you ever had to deal with this situation before? It's an annoying problem to say the least. Most DIY-er's go to their local auto parts stores and buy the repair kits and attempt the repair themselves. However, the chemicals or ingredients in the over the counter repair kits can counter react with the properties of the glass and break or remove a chunk of the windshield when the mirror falls back off. Now, the $10 or less kit is now costing hundreds of dollars replacing the windshield.

And when the mirror initially falls off, the mirror bracket looks very deceiving and when people attempt the repair themselves, many glue the bracket back on upside down and at that point, the rearview mirror can not be hung back on the bracket. Now, they have a situation on their hands!! The process in removing the bracket to reattach it correctly becomes a high risk procedure, potentially causing the windshield to break.

When your windows are frozen shut, do not attempt to open or roll  them down for at least an hour after your vehicle has warmed up and the doorglasses have completely thawed. The power window motors are extremely strong on todays vehicles, and if you try to roll your frozen window down, the force from the motor can cause the regulator, or the glass to break quite easily, and sometimes both can break, making for an extra costly repair.  So having patience will have money staying in your pocket.
